I will sing unto Yahweh as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have any being
Adam, a man in whom Yahweh imputed His attributes, was the first human being created on this earth. He was the product of Yahweh's awesome thought; formed from the dust of the ground; and given authority and dominion over every created thing.
Without woman in the picture, he was given all power and authority to rule on this earth along with the guidelines to walk upright. In spite of his position, he had no one to exercise his power on, or share it with. He was incomplete without a helper as his counterpart. However, it was Yahweh’s intention for him to have someone to agree with and answer to him, so woman was the next and final part of creation to meet this need which capped the divine plan.
When Yahweh presented this wonderful gift to the man, he was so enthralled, that he immediately declared she was bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh and because she was taken out of his side, she was called Woman.
In the Hebrew language the word “Woman” is very similar to the word “man”. The word for man is “ish”, and the word for woman is “ishshah”.
She was the other part of the man and it was intended for her to answer to him. She was to share with him his responsibilities and cooperate with him in fulfilling Yahweh’s purpose for their lives. Yahweh intended for man to take the head, so he was created first, followed by the creation of the woman.
The man is intended to be the aggressor and the giver, while the woman, the responder and the receiver, for Yahweh’s creation was purposely made that way. Her creation was indirect, because she came through the man, whereas, the man’s creation was direct, because he came directly from the earth.
Adam was the head of the human race and a fine product of Yahwehh’s handiwork, so in him was instilled the ability to be in control of Yahweh’s establishment on earth and to ensure that all directives from Him were kept.
According to scripture, a wife must submit to her husband, as unto the Lord; for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Yeshua is the head of the church and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, as the church is subjected unto Yeshua, the wives should be unto their husbands in everything (Ephes. 5:22-24). Also, a man must love his wife as Yeshua also loved the church and gave himself for it, that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, thus presenting it to himself as a glorious, wrinkle free, spotless, unblemished and holy body. Even so, must the man love his wife as his own body, for he that loves his wife loves himself (Ephes. 5:25-28)
Woman was made to be the other part of man, created to stand by his side, to share in his opinions, to support his decisions and to be a companion of comfort to him and to reverence him (Ephes. 5:33).
In Genesis 2:24, Adam declared that a man should leave his parents and cleaves to his wife, therefore, upon marrying, he would no longer be under the control of his parents, because he has taken the initiative to be the head of his new family, with the responsibility and obligation to make all the decisions, while his wife is there to support and agree with him.
Women are meant to be supporters of their husbands and to step up, only when their men have failed. They are partly responsible for the right upbringing of the children, while the fathers are there to enforce the laws of the home.
Paul, in his letter to Timothy cautioned that no woman should teach or assume authority over a man, because man was created first and it was Eve that was deceived, not Adam. Adam was not misled, he presumptuously disobeyed Yahweh. So his punishment was more severe than Eve’s, because he failed the test badly.
Through him the entire earth was cursed (Genesis 3:17-18). He stepped down from his assigned position and allowed his wife to take over. He did not only fail to obey Yahweh but also failed to take care of his wife, therefore his punishment was so severe, that the whole creation is still groaning (Romans 8:22).
Men are meant to be coherent, intellectual, wise, ethical and able-bodied representatives of Yahweh, with the realization that wrong decisions can hurt not only themselves, but their generation to come. They need to leave worthy inheritances for those behind and not like Adam, who left the world a legacy of sufferings and death.
Our men should be symbols of hope and should not leave corrupt and disdain legacies for their inheritors. They need to stand in their ordained positions with their wives at their sides and sound their trumpets of truth, integrity and ethics, so this world could be a better social environment.
Some men need to stop being lethargic and obese with selfishness, because these debilitating traits will only deplete their inner strength, leaving them helpless and unable to rise to the occasion. They need to be subjected to the authority of Yahweh, so they could truly stand as His oracles, with the knowledge of the responsibilities vested in them to be true leaders, faithful husbands and dutiful fathers.
They are also expected to provider for their relatives, especially for those of their own household, or they would be rated as one that is worse than a faith-denying unbeliever (1 Tim. 5:8).
Marriage is a financial venture and the husband has the responsibility to finance or support or provide for his family. This is talking about money. As a husband, his earnings are not his own but belong to his wife as well and his children.
In this world, many broken homes have been as a result of unfaithfulness and the breakdown always stem from the head. Social lifestyle has been on a moral decay and it keeps hammering on vulnerable lives making them weaker and weaker. Some men have faltered in their leadership, causing women to rise in opposition, denounce their authority and successfully replace them in positions.
Some women are no longer homemakers, but are now part of the social world, where they are competing against men for authoritative positions. Even in the olden days, women challenged the authority of weak and self-indulgent men.
In the book of Judges 4, Deborah the prophetess rose to the occasion and summoned Barak to meet with her, so they can work out a plan against the enemy. She emerged as a great leader, because she trusted Yahweh implicitly and inspired others to do the same. She was the only woman in the bible who was placed at the height of political power by the common consent of the people, because they saw virtue and strength in her. She was like Joan of Arc, who twenty seven centuries later, gallantly rode in front of the French and led them to victory.
Today there are many more women like Deborah and Joan of Arc, even as there are men with Barak’s mentality who will say, “If thou will go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go” (Judge 4:8).
Barak dodged the responsibility as a leader, because his confidence was not in God, unlike Deborah, who confidently declared “I will surely go with thee; notwithstanding the journey that thou art taking shall not be for thy own honor; for the lord shall sell Sis era into the hand of a woman” (Judges 4:9).
In these words Deborah demonstrated more leadership than Barak and her victory came through her trust in Jehovah.
Great women have ascended thereafter. They have challenged the strength of men and were successful.
Many men have miserably failed their families, churches, countries, social groups, jobs etc. Countless children are unclaimed and unattended by fathers in this society. Pregnancy and abortion are on the upscale because of immoral and illicit sexual practices.
Some women are left with the decision as to whether they should keep their pregnancies or not, because the fathers have abandoned them. Some men even force the women to have abortions because they are not ready for fatherhood, or they claim to have other commitments. Many children have to be fostered by other parents because the single mother is incapable of taking care of the child.
The entire world is on a moral decline, because men have refused to stick to their obligations. Deuteronomy 6:7-8, says to teach Yahweh’s word diligently unto our children at all times, in all ways, so the teachings would remain indelible in their hearts and minds.
I Peter 3:7, teaches that the husband is to honor his wife. She gave up her name to take his. Honor means that he should show her respect and this involves courtesy, consideration and emotional support.
As husbands, men must be sure that they do not ridicule their wives in public by making unnecessary hurtful remarks. It is important for him to realize she wears his name and she is to be viewed as part of his body. She may not be perfect but she is the part of his body that needs improvement. He should not expect perfection, but as Ephesians 4:32 teaches, "forbear one another". This means to be gentle towards her. Control of temper, abstaining from physical violence and restraining a sharp tongue that makes one feels inferior. Both are a part of each other. For this reason Paul said, "Love your wife". He didn't say if you want to. As you love her, you love yourself and are fulfilling the role that the Lord wanted you to have.
Another responsibility of the husband is to be active in the area of disciplining and rearing the children uprightly. When the Apostle Paul was giving the qualifications for elders and deacons, he included this statement that is certainly applicable to all men: In I Timothy 3:3-5, he speaks of ruling your own house.
Now this discipline should be with love. Many times discipline is administered without love.
The Book says in Ephesians 6:4, "Fathers provoke not your children to wrath", and again in Colossians 3:21, "Fathers provoke not your children to anger lest they be discouraged". The husband therefore should not leave all the discipline up to his wife, but should share in the molding and direction of their children.
It is not a proper division of responsibility to say that “as the husband I will provide the finances and the wife is to take care of the house and children”. The husband has duties even after his day’s work is done, for his extra-curriculum activities involve being there for his family, to enjoy their presence, after fulfilling his financial obligations.
The Christian father should set an example for his family as he earns a living and directs the household with concern for each member. He should see to their spiritual development by the life he lives and the direction in which he leads his family.
As father figures, they are to know the word of Yahweh first, before they can teach them to their children. They need to be concerned about the spiritual welfare of their children and to endeavor to bring them into a faithful relationship with Yahweh, so they can pass on that legacy to their children that it may continue to all his descendants. He must be able to rule over his home with authority and not as a novice, having his children in subjection with all seriousness. For if a man cannot rule over his own house, how shall he take care of the house of Yahweh? (1 Tim. 3:4-5)
Men need to be aware that it is the parents’ responsibility to give their children the upbringing that prepares them to live uprightly. It is only through the ingestion of the word of Yahweh that the heart of the father will be turned to the heart of the child, so he can bring the heart of the child to the heart of the Savior (Mal. 4:6).
When a parent is absent from a home, especially the father, that child’s life is disrupted and it is clearly seen in his or her behavioral display. There is a constant inner cry of lack and need, whether the child is financially secured or not. That paternal absence is so crucial, that it makes a major negative impact on the child’s life. Often the child will act out and the mother would say, she does her best but the child is always out of control.
Sometimes the child would lack coping skills and cannot deal with simple tasks or make simple decisions, because there is no guidance and moral support to give him or her strength or encouragement to stay focus.
Often, children, because they are naïve, tend to be very uncertain and skeptical about life and with improper management, would make wrong choices. Inappropriate mentorship can be devastating to a child’s upbringing while the right nurturing is an asset to a child’s success.
Many men have found themselves so busy being entrepreneurs, business tycoons, pursuing their careers, or just being merely bugged down with work to make ends meet, that they forget the moral, spiritual and social needs of their family, then when everything has collapsed, the children are the ones who suffer the most. Some adolescents tend to turn to their peers, or to the opposite sex for comfort, which could be very catastrophic. This distorted relationship can produce all types of bizarre end results, much to the regret of both parents and children.
Some children have turned to drugs, alcohol, gangs, unnatural sexual activities, or prostitution. Others have become geeks, computer hackers, introverts and have assumed some weird personalities that are intolerable to society, because of disrupted homes.
Unknown to some parents, they have murderers and rapists in the privacy of their homes, yet in the eyes of the public they seem to be perfect children, until their personalities are unveiled. Most times it is too late for a drawback, because Satan has already dissolved the marriage of the parents and they may be in court battling for custody of the children, if not, for financial support and settlement from acquired assets.
This whole scene could be very traumatic for the entire family, especially the children. With this type of exposure and absence of the right spiritual guidance, what legacy would these children pass down to theirs? If this trend of life is not broken, it would eventually become a generational curse.
Our men need to stand firm as leaders and walk in righteousness, displaying love, warmth, and affection. He should also show consideration as he communicates with his wife verbally, physically, spiritually, mentally and socially. Then with guidance and help from Yahweh, they would make right decisions and their families would be protected against the attack of the enemy, who is always walking around, seeking whom he may devour.
